A 14-year-old boy has been praised by fire officers after saving an elderly couple by alerting them to a blaze in their home in Dewsbury.
The youngster, who lives next door to the property in Crackenedge Lane, noticed a fire in the dining room.
An elderly man living in the property hadn’t realised there was a fire until the boy went into the house and told him.
They then helped the man’s wife out of the property, and alerted neighbours who called 999.
Firefighters quickly put the fire out but said it could have proved life threatening had the youngster not noticed it.

A fire service spokesman said: “Due to the boy’s quick actions he probably saved the people in the house.
“The man had no idea his dining room was on fire.
“We would never advise anyone to go into a house which is on fire, but in this instance the boy saw it was a small fire and took the decision to go in and alert the man, which has probably saved him.”
The couple, who are both in their 80s, were not injured.
The cause of the blaze, which happened just before 10pm on Monday, is being investigated.
